WSAVA compliance as Reddit’s gospel framework

Theme — wsava-compliance-gospel

From the multi-platform deep dive (market_research #23, April 2026): r/DogFood functions as an advocacy community for WSAVA-guideline-compliant brands. Only 5–6 brands accepted as “scientifically valid”: Hill’s Science Diet, Royal Canin, Purina Pro Plan, Purina ONE, Iams, Eukanuba. The sub maintains a “Wall of Shame” and removes posts pushing non-compliant boutique brands.

This creates a fork in the trust landscape that defines Kismet’s challenge: the platforms owners spend the most TIME on (TikTok, Instagram) push fresh food, while the platforms they TRUST most (vets, Reddit) push WSAVA kibble. Result: guilt and frequent switching (see guilt-to-pride-arc). The platform-trust-divide is the strategic story.

For Kismet: the brand needs a credible science story to survive Reddit scrutiny without abandoning the social-media “fresh-style results” pitch. clinically-proven-gut-health is the bridge — own clinical data, but communicate it with TikTok-grade visual storytelling. Anything without published trial data is increasingly vulnerable as Gen Z dog owners apply Reddit’s framework.

Tactical implication: don’t fight the WSAVA frame; co-opt it. Position Kismet’s clinical trial as the WSAVA-grade backstop and use the whitelisted-spark-ad-format / vet-creator content (Dr. Kwane) to surface that proof in feeds where the framework is weaponized against boutique brands.
